There are few places on earth that elicit more of the sense of the exotic than the country that was once called Burma, with its heart in Rangoon, ruled by colonial Britain, and famed for its elephants, teak and rubies. Now independent and called Myanmar, with its capital renamed Yangon, and coming out of a dark period of repression and isolation from the rest of the world, it is a fascinating land of contrasts.
